one month old!
Today, our boy is one month old.
He weighs 7 pounds, 6 ounces.
He's fussy in the evenings. He's pleasant in the mornings.
He loves his swing, his bouncy seat, and he is starting to love his paci.
He falls asleep in the car, and in the stroller.
He's happy to be outside.
He recognizes our voices and is starting to focus on our faces.
He sleeps right through Daisy barking, but startles when she shakes her ears.
He's outgrown preemie diapers and is too long for newborn footie pajamas.
If he can find his thumb, he will suck on it and this soothes him.
His eyes are still dark blue and his hair is soft and straight.
He sleeps best when he's laying on my chest.
I love the sound of his breathing and when he wrinkles his forehead.
I love nursing, cuddling, and taking walks. I hate it when he cries.
I love his hands, his belly button, and the little dip between his nose and lip.
I love it when he stretches and makes waking up noises.
In some ways, it feels like the time has flown. In some ways, it feels like the time stands still.
But it always feels to me like he has been here forever. He's familiar and comfortable.
I love him so much!

luke meets great grandparents
These days, our little lives revolve around breastfeeding.
Sitting in the swing.
Diaper changes.
Laundry.
Lullabyes.
Walks around the block.
Visitors.
This week, Luke got to meet his great grandfather, Chuck. (Adam's dad's dad.)

This week, Luke got to meet his great grandfather, Chuck. (Adam's dad's dad.)
Four generations of Martin men.
Well, three men and one little man, who slept through the whole encounter.
And he got to meet his great grandmother, Annie, or GG. (Adam's mom's mom.)
This meeting was especially sweet to me.
It blesses me to sit in the company of those who have lived through more than I could dream.
Annie is one of those women.
Her wisdom and laughter brought joy to my heart!
This woman delivered and raised six children -- and lives to tell a beautiful story.
She laughed and laughed and laughed when she held Luke.
She kept saying, goodness gracious! over and over again as if the beauty and miracle of new life surprised her, even still.

luke's first bath
Luke's umbilical cord fell off this morning, so little man had his first real bath tonight!
I think it's safe to say he liked it. He gave us some funny looks for the first few minutes. He squinted his little eyes when the water dripped down his face. And he cried for just a second when it got a little cold. But after all that ...
... my little buddy fell asleep! I mean limp noodle asleep! Warm, relaxed, comfortable. Asleep! What a sweet night!
